I think you're probably the only one reading this, so I hope Tennessee is treating you well!! I'm going to be starting up a .mac web account. My poor little bro just got his free accounts on flikr and this blogger site hacked badly... Made me realize that there's something to be said for just going ahead and getting a more secure site to begin with. Anyways, I'll let you know when it's up.

Here's a closeup of our xmas tree. So festive to get the apartment all done up with lights and the tree. Christmas is my favourite time of year. Hope life is treating you all well out there! Interview season is starting to heat up, joy oh bliss. Tough decisions.

Week-end

It's friday night, I'm home, and it's wonderful! This last week at County has been a decent one actually. It's been frustrating trying to get things done for my patients, and yet I feel I've been able to make a small difference to some of them. As for medicine, two weeks ago, I would have said boy am I ever second guessing that choice. Of one thing I am now convinced, I want to go to programs with closed ICU's. The mixed picture just adds that extra element of stress that can really take away from learning. Musing over my experience this month so far though, I actually now feel much more comfortable taking care of ICU pts. For example, I've had a couple pts come in w/ DKA, and learned a lot from each. I'm still pretty much off the low end of the scale in terms of Intensivist competency, but with experience comes learning.

It's getting cool again, and I love it. Can't wait to go to Salt Lake City and then Alberta at Xmas! family, snow, skiing! I actually do miss a winter with snow. sleep awaits

For the one or two people actually checking this thing, thank you! probably won't be much else posted by me this month however. I'm on a day off. Currently am spending a month on my subinternship. I thought I really enjoyed internal medicine, which I did last year down at Riverside, however this time it is just killing me. Am feeling very out of sorts. What to do now... I'm praying for enlightenment. Gotta go, to much to do on this day off.

Yesterday I walked out of the longest test I have ever taken. 9 hours, 368 questions... It was a doozy! I kept getting these dermatology questions that I had no clue on. something like this... 34 year old female comes in complaining of rash for 3 days and yada yada... whats the mechanism of the drug that is the best treatment for this condition? WHAT??!! I'm still back on what in the world is this.. Sadly I quickly discovered that was the one area I did NOT study very well. Oh well, I had 3 q's on Cluster headache. Cha ching! I took those to the bank thank you very much... Well I have another 8 hour whopper this coming Monday, but it shouldn't be too bad. It will be nice to actually have some patient interaction again. I've missed it. I think the big decision is starting to become a bit clearer for me.

Tension

Ever anticipate something so much that you just can't seem to do anything else? Like your life is frozen in place until that "thing" occurs? I guess it's a full blown case of an anxiety disorder of some kind. Tomorrow is the day... On a completely different topic, pastor Jessica quoted one of her old professors in her sermon this last weekend, and I thought it was a good thought point. Went something like this.. "Never let your quest for knowledge destroy your appreciation of it's beauty."

Sexy global warming

Absolutely brutal! 120 degrees outside, Jami and I are stripped down to the essentials and perched in front of the air conditioner. Thought about heading to the beach with the church, but traffic is catastrophic as everyone else in the inland empire has the same thought... get to the beach! I'm interested in seeing the ex-vice president's documentary. I have been told it is rather interesting, I'll have to find it. I floated the idea of heading up to Death Valley, out of sheer morbid curiousity. How hot would that feel?! And how about baking an egg on the car hood? However, the idea was met with a mix of revulsion and sarcasm. Maybe some other day... So for now, the title of this blog certainly reveals my bias. Stay cool!

Insomnia

How many of us struggle with sleep? Too little? Too much? usually too little... I've had to resort to a little diphenhydramine to help the sandman. Perspective is everything. I'm feeling nicely manipulated by the media tonight. It's terrible what's happening in the middle east right now and I wanted to get a little TV news coverage. BBC seemed to report exclusively from the Lebanese point of view, and having switched to ABC news, they reported from nothing but the Israeli perspective. Sad from both angles.. I do think Israel has been excessive, but what else can you do from the air. It's only going to get worse. Well, the benadryl is starting to work, bye for now.

Well I finally quit thinking about it and have taken the first step in setting up shop in a little corner of the web. Feels good to actually do that. Hopefully much more to come.
